The
"Bucks for Books" Campaign is Underway!
Monterey Public Library has announced its goal of raising $20,000 by the end
of December for the purchase of books, DVDs, CDs and other collections.
The Library 's collection budget was cut by 30% in recent years, and in the
current fiscal year, the Library has $60,000 less to spend on collections.
"Last year, the Library checked out over 464,000 items," said Library
Director Kim Bui-Burton. "That is a 9% increase over last year, and we
expect that number to increase in the current year." The "Bucks for Books"
campaign is aimed at helping the Library keep its collections up-to-date and
in adequate supply.
Donations may be made in cash, by check or credit card. Donations of $25 or
more may be made in someone’s honor and the donor will receive a gift card
to present to the honoree. Monterey Public Library is located at 625 Pacific
Street, Monterey. For more information about the "Bucks for Books" campaign,
