    The Library offers reference and referral service to guide you to resources for all your information needs.

  • Youth Services
    The Library offers a full range of professional services to children of all ages and their families, including reading readiness, homework and school project resources, information, and assistance with reading selections. The Born to Read program celebrates the birth of your baby and helps babies and their families get a head start on a lifetime of reading with storytimes and special activities.   • Check-out Desk
    Find books and more, place holds and recommend items you would like the Library to consider acquiring. Visit the Check-out Desk for information about how to obtain a library card, to renew materials, or Log into Your Pals Account to see your own record and select whether you would like to receive circulation notices (holds and overdues) via postal or e-mail.   • Readers' Services
    Borrow from a collection of over 120,000 books, video and audio cassettes, CDs. Guidance to recommended reading, literature discussion groups. For information contact Inga Labeaune at 831.646.5602.
     

  • Teen Services
    The Library welcomes teens and makes available a variety of services to teens. Services include a TeenZone space that invites teens to socialize, find a variety of books, magazines and DVDs especially chosen for them, as well as to work on their studies. Events are offered to teens throughout the year, including contests, summer programs and a TeenZone blog. Homework help is offered through Youth Services and Reference librarians, Live Homework Help and links to a variety of homework help Web sites.   • Cultural Programs and Events

  • Interlibrary Loan Service

  • Meeting Rooms
    The Library offers two meeting rooms Which may be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis by non-profit organizations for meetings and events.   • Local History Collection
    The California History Room contains a valuable and unique collection of books, selected magazine and newspaper articles, maps, government documents, photographs and archival material pertaining to the City of Monterey and the Monterey Peninsula.   • Internet Service
    Monterey Public Library offers free access to the Internet from workstations in the Library. The Library's Web pages provide useful links to recommended sites, including online tutorials to help new Internet users learn how to search for information. Special pages for kids are linked to carefully selected sites appropriate for the whole family. Here is the Library's Internet Policy.   • Laptops
    Laptop computers may be checked out for use in the Library building. Microsoft Word is installed on the laptops, and Internet access is provided by the Library's free Wi-Fi service. You can save files on a flash drive or burn a CD. (If you don't have your own, you can buy flash drives and blank CDs at the Library Store.) Printing is not yet available, but we're working on it. Laptops check out for two hours. To borrow a laptop, you need a current Monterey Public Library or Pacific Grove Public Library card, and you must read and sign a Laptop Computer User Agreement. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must also sign the User Agreement.
     

  • Online Catalog
    The Library's online catalog of holdings can be accessed on the Web, The catalog features the combined holdings of the Monterey Public Library and our neighboring Library in Pacific Grove, the book collections of Colton Hall Museum and the Monterey History & Art Association's Mayo Hayes O'Donnell Library.
     

  • Library to You
    Electronic notifications which allow you to receive a wide variety of information about new materials in the catalog, library news, and upcoming events in our public meeting rooms through your e-mail or by using RSS feeds.
     

  • Outreach Service
    Volunteers deliver books and other Library materials to people prevented by physical disabilities or other handicaps from visiting the Library or the Bookmobile. For more information about receiving outreach service or for information about becoming a volunteer, contact Joanne White at 831.646.3710.
